Job Description – Buyer

We are looking for a BUYER to report to the Sales Manager.  This is a full-time permanent position.  Starting salary is $35,000 to $40,000, dependent on experience and education.

THE COMPANY:  Our Company is an importer and distributor of fishing and hunting products purchased mostly from China.  We sell our merchandise across Canada to sporting goods wholesalers and retailers.  All our products are sold under our own house brands.  Candidates who have experience and/or an interest in fishing or hunting activities would find this an asset. Buyer Job description:

Your prime responsibilities will be to set prices on products and establish buying quantities for the merchandise programs.  You will also create and issue purchase orders to our various vendors. You will be part of a marketing team that meets on a daily basis to assess product quality and vendor sourcing issues.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Issuing purchase orders to vendors.
• Communicating with our vendors regarding product issues.
• Forecasting unit sales and purchase planning.
• Ensuring timely delivery of merchandise.
• Sourcing out new vendors and products.
• Coordinating with our freight forwarder and customs broker.
• Costing of new and current products.
• Updating and maintaining files related to cash flow and inventory movement.

Skill requirements:

• Minimum of 3 years buying experience preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to take initiative and be pro-active.
• Strong aptitude in working with numbers, especially Excel.
• Undergraduate degree or College Diploma in business or marketing.
• Able to work effectively in a team environment.
